{lily} portraits – 4.17.19 – holland, mi portrait photographer

Hello all! Spring is in the air today and I’m so excited to show you my latest shoot! Lily here is having her quinceanera in a few weeks, and we wanted to go and shoot a small mini portrait session beforehand! We met up at Centennial Park in Holland, MI, for a small quick shoot on probably the coldest day in the week (oops!) So we were all a bit cold, but Lily was a trooper!

We moved to a small church down the road to catch some quick shots in front of these gorgeous red doors. Oh, I’m so overjoyed to get back into the swing of shooting and this year should be absolutely amazing! Check in a few weeks to catch this superstar’s amazing quinceanera photos ;D

{minoo&john} married, second shooting – 5.21.16 – brooklyn wedding photographer

A shorter wedding post for you all today! A month or so ago I got to shoot with the lovely Sara at Ava Weddings downtown Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I had so much hanging out with the guys in the morning and joining the rest of the crew just before their first look. The botanical gardens are so incredible! Unfortunately we had to move it all indoors due to some unfortunate weather, but it didn’t keep any spirits down. I love second shooting so much, because I get the chance to see how other photographers work and occasionally I get to learn a new tip and trick here and there too. Here’s a small portion of the day I captured, enjoy!

{congratulations.2014} – 1.6.15 – west michigan wedding photographer

A little late for my year end post this year and I’m sorry! I took a few weeks off after completing my end of the season editing for the holiday this year, and it was so incredibly lovely. 2014. What. A. Year. We traveled a lot again (this year to Nashville again, a trip off to Seattle, and some fun in Chicago!) and kept a little more to home. I didn’t second shoot for any fabulous photographers in the area, but I look forward to shooting more with my colleagues this year! 2014 was also full of personal growth, some really fantastic ups, and some extremely unwanted downs. I’ve made some beautiful lifelong relationships with my couples and I really hope that 2015 will be just as amazing. I have attached the sneak post for each of the 20 weddings underneath if you’d like to see more from their wedding day!

As usual I had so many shoots I have to do an abridged wedding version of this post. But here’s a shout out to all the families, engaged couples, and little babies that I got the chance to meet too! Reflecting is one of my most favorite things to do and it was wonderful to leaf through all my shoots while compiling this post! Good luck with the new year to you all!

{simply.bridal} stylized wedding fun – 10.25.14 – grand rapids wedding photographer

Had a fun simple shoot tonight all thanks to Simply Bridal, a few sisters, and a little elbow grease! I’ve been picking away little bit by little bit at a LEGO inspired stylized shoot for the past month or two … starting with grandiose plans that slooooowly melted into a much smaller shoot than anticipated. We’ll just call this round one inspiration for a much larger shoot later? I was provided a beautiful chiffon dress from Simply bridal and played a few details off from the flowy playful look it provided. The belt and headpiece were playing off the colors and flowers in the bouquet, and the boutonniere supplied a small dose of all the other elements from LEGO to playful ribbon, colors, and florals. AND we got the best day of October weather yet! Bonus. As for the hair we decided to play off a inside out french braid wrapping around her hair that was tucked into her hair piece. I just LOVE how everything fell together so beautifully! Now next time… I’ll be sure to show up MUCH earlier than what I did … whew … stylized shoots take lots of time and energy I didn’t know they needed!

{stylized.mentoring} 2.9.14 – grand rapids wedding photographer

Hello again already!

Today was a cold, snowy, sunny, and beautiful day – so perfect for a mentoring session and a small stylized shoot. Remember Kaci from Just Delightful Events? She put together both the bouquet and the flower crown (both absolutely beautiful) and I showed her a little around her camera, which is always good fun. Enough small talk, enjoy some photos!

{congratulations.2013} – 12.31.13 – west michigan wedding photographer

Here it is! Another full year of weddings, engagements, families, seniors, and babies!

Paul and I have traveled to Ohio, Tennessee, Northern Michigan, Detroit and so many other places to experience and shoot some of the loveliest people and families I’ve ever met. Together we shot about 27 weddings in 2013, and I’ve even shot for a friend here and there in two other weddings :) There has been snow, icy rain, gorgeous sunsets, cloudy days, clear skies, colorful autumn leaves, and the new green spring growth. I usually post a few shots from each wedding I’ve shot in the previous year and this post is definitely no different! As I look forward to my next 15 or so bookings for 2014 (and any new bookings I will possibly get) I can’t WAIT to see what new shots I’ll get and what couples will inspire me next. Thank you all for so much awesomeness!

{NOLA} 11.19.13

Hey everyone! I promised a New Orleans blog (and in case you’re wondering NOLA = New Orleans, Louisiana) and here it is! I won’t describe much of our trip, as I’m sure the actual details are kinda boring and not as fun as my photos. Let’s just say there’s a little bit of Nashville, Tennessee, a whole lotta Louisiana (including Baton Rouge,  Bourbon St., Avery Island, and the Garden District) I even dabbled a little bit with a GIF! Enjoy one of the funnest places ever :)

{amanda&ben} just because! – 10.13.13

Spent the evening laughing and enjoying out time shooting this fun couple. Amanda and Ben had all the workings of a great session – they are cute, they are funny, and most important of all they are totally in love. We started off in good ole’ downtown Grand Rapids in one of my favorite locations to shoot – the GRAM. After some more fabulous shots in the city they picked up the puppy and we were off to the dog park! We hit a few snags in our plan, but you honestly would have never known it :D So please, enjoy their sneak!

I had a mentor session with an old friend today! Now, apparently those of you who know these people know that this couple ISN’T actually a couple… but I feel as if they were lying to me the whole time because they worked so well and naturally together ;P We walked around Rosa Park Circle and enjoyed our evening of questions, shooting, and just plain fun (including some interesting times with GRAM staff being goofs :D – LOVE ittttt, now if they’ll only do that for an actual engagement session, I think I’d die a happy person :P). If you’re interested in a mentor session, please let me know and I can send you some more information about it :)

Had a fun stylized shoot today over at my favorite location ever, Wildwood Family Farms, with Bradley Productions! It was for the up and coming events coordinator Kelly Lynn Events who did all of the amazing stylizing behind the scenes. Today it was a very fun Cinco De Mayo type of shoot, complete with margaritas and some other fun Mexican flair!

Hey, this is cool! Andrea and Kyle’s post from their December wedding got a feature on Learn Love’s blog!

{a.little.practice} 2.17.13

Went on a fun ‘learning’ shoot today! This couple is not technically engaged (so any family members of them seeing this post – no heart attacks please!) but for the sake of the shoot, we pretended :) Probably the most beautiful day of the month to shoot… Also, there was some adorable horses – oo oo oo and a pretty red barn! So enjoy a small bit of fun pictures for the sake of being a fun learning experience. Time to warm my feet – it was certainly cold!

{congratulations.2012} 12.31.12

It’s that time of year again! Reflecting on the past year, I counted how many shoots I accomplished… the final count amazed me! 58 shoots (wedding, portrait, senior, ect!) averaging about one session or wedding PER week in 2012. I can not thank all of my supporters and clients enough for such a fun and creative year! And as I look ahead to 2013 I can count a handful of portrait sessions already booked, as well as 17 weddings already down in my calendar. I am incredibly blessed and humbled by all of your kind words and bookings and really look forward to another awesome year! Can. Not. Wait!

So, as per usual I am going to be posting my wedding couples of 2012 as I have done in years past! I would love to compile every shoot, but 58 is a LOT to work with… So every engagement session, senior, and portraits – you get high honorable mentions! NOW! Time for some pitchas!

So go enjoy the last few hours of 2012! I know I sure am – resting from the long weekend of shooting is going to do wonders :) Also a HUGE shout out to Paul! My loving amazing wonderful husband for second shooting all of these for me. Although I “fake fire” you for being better than me at times, your creativity is so incredibly good. And from the both of us – thank you all again!

My most anticipated event of the entire month. Ahh, and a day too late for Christmas!

Oh well. At least it finally feels like winter now :)

Drive carefully!

{emily&brad} an engagement to remember! – 8.31.12

Hello all again! So today I’m blogging about something I’ve never shot before this. I shot stills of a lip dub video which was the public part of Brad and Emily’s engagement and Paul captured the actual proposal (from afar!) just moments later. Brad had been discussing this me for a little while now and It was crazy trying to find a date that would work for him, his/her family and friends, and me! Finally he found a good time and literally the day we flew back from our vacation in NYC Paul and I were driving down to Tunnel Park in Holland to join in on the practice and figure out how we were going to shoot this thing and not be in the way of the videographers filming the entire event! Practice went fabulous and everyone was ready for the event just the next day. Anticipation was HIGH. Practice was another hour resulting in a few more run through’s that were definitely needed. Finally the 5 minute text was received and everyone cued up in to their starting spots and it was ON! Also, what was so awesome and perfect was she had NO idea that this was happening. It. Was. Amazing. So let me stop typing now and let you see some amazing frames!

So after the video was done a friend escorted Emily off to a private beach that had a small trail of love notes left by Brad as it had been expressed that the actual proposal had to be sweet and a little more private. He wanted at least some shots though and Paul was ready to be a hidden paparazzi for the event, along with a videographer or two :)

After her notes she was greeted with a video set up (I mean, Brad is a videographer himself so it definitely was only natural he set up something that sweet) of family and friends expressing their love and sentiments to Emily. P.s. When you see the video later, I can assure you you’ll start bawling like I was this morning when I saw the full result ;) Brad also of course, was hiding a distance away – ready to act!

After she said yes (yay!!!!) Brad arranged for a small private moment with just their immediate families to get to know each other and to congratulate the newly engaged couple. Later he invited other close family and friends along to the small party. The perfect sun set along with the most perfect small details for a intimate engagement party. Fireworks on the beach, a beautiful candle chandelier, and candle mason jar luminaries, and oh, I could just go on forever!

As soon as most of the festivities were over there was one last event – to actually watch the video! A few of the guys who had shot the dub video earlier in the event edited a quick copy of the video for everyone’s enjoyment. As we were finishing up shooting, I think they had already started a second viewing.  It was amazing to hear the laughs and enjoyment as we were walking back to the car. :)

So there you have it! The video was shot by the ever amazing Bradley Productions, and a direct link to their youtube video can be found here –

Brad and Emily get Engaged! (A LipDub Proposal)

Also! I totally encourage you to check them out if you’re considering getting your wedding filmed! They are amazing people who make incredible videos that you’ll seriously cherish forever :D

{thank.you} 9.11.12

I’ve been shooting tons of creative and beautiful thank-you’s recently! Remember – schedule a time during your reception to take some creative sunset (or sparkler!) thank-you’s! They tend to be some of my most favorite photos of the day because of the lighting, but mostly because everything else important is finished and you can get something a little more relaxed while people are partying it up :) I actually composed a GIF for this one that I was quite proud of :D

Feel free to let me know what you think! (Or if you have idea’s for one you’d like to do yourself :P)

{NYC} 8.30.12

“This is a Manhattan bound F train. Next stop is, Rockefeller Center.”

Those are the words I’ve been hearing a lot of in the past ten days. NYC is one of the most amazing places in the world to me, and I was so happy to grace it’s presence for the past week and a half. Of course, I brought my camera too – So here are some of my travelling adventures :)

It’s been fun, but I’m definitely ready to get back in to real life again too! Now I get to play with my new 8-15mm at weddings :)

{products.i.love} 8.17.12

Well, I think it’s time for a post that isn’t really of clientele this time, but instead for doing a little show and tell! It isn’t very long and it’s not a full list of my products (I’m thinking a full product shoot and post will be in order for November, as a few of my things have now changed since last year!) But I was all giddy and excited yesterday about a few things I just updated that I did a little shooting in the beautiful sunset that happened right after the clouds cleared out from the rain. So I grabbed a quick few things and shot my little heart out!

So, I have shown these before – but this is one of my most favorite things to design. This DVD holder I generally use for any portrait packages I send out (engagement sessions, senior packages, family portraits, and ect!) I order these in a pearle linen paper and they are always custom designed to your shoot. :) As I grabbed a few things really quickly, I forgot to grab and envelope and DVD to photograph in the example, but this at least shows the design!

So moving on to your wedding DVD set!

My packaging used to be very simple for these, which wasn’t terrible – I just thought it needed a little more oomph! I now send wedding DVD’s out in a beautiful natural brown box with bow! Your lightscribed wedding  DVD’s still rest within a custom designed 4 page album with actual photo prints coated in a UV dura coating. The first thing you see when you open your box is your permission to print cards and other assorted cards and any other finishing documents you need (receipts, contracts, ect!) And I make sure your album doesn’t move too much within your packaging with a recycled material (either newspaper or brown craft paper. Craft paper shown in example) I want two things to happen. One, I want you to have a small memorable experience opening your photos. And two, I want to make sure you have something physical for you to cherish with your digital package. All DVD’s, including portrait sessions, are guarenteed one free replacement as well in case of accidental breaking (only your disc will be replaced, for full price list on another set please email me!)

So yes! Look forward to seeing more products in November! Have a fabulous afternoon :)

{boy.or.girl?} 8.4.12

Ever heard of a baby “gender reveal” party? It’s actually quite fun and interesting! I attended (and photographed) my first one tonight – can’t wait to explain more in their blog post! But for now, it’s a creative way to reveal the gender of your baby to your family in a very unique way. Hope I get to attend more! Mmmm the cupcakes were delicious :)

Also, it was sort of a birthday party too – two in one!

Anyone else planning one of these in your future? They are super fun!

{trash.that.dress} 7.26.12

Had my first ever trash the dress session tonight. Everything seemed against us at first, but the clouds cleared up to an extremely beautiful evening sky. It was an interesting experience to say the least! Full of stepping in things that shouldn’t be stepped in, lots of people asking where the groom was, and other fun discussions :)

And of course I had to sneak one of her lovely friend (MOH who wasn’t done with her duties :P) who was extremely helpful!

More wedding editing now! :)
